Emergency Physicians at Kaiser Permanente wanted to identify emergency department patients suitable for research studies. Because of the multivariable criteria for research eligibility combined with the fast-paced nature of an emergency department, it can be challenging for ED providers to recognize candidates at the point of care.

To address this need, Asolva developed a real-time text alert messaging system that notifies ED physicians if their patient is potentially eligible for a prospective study.

The Prospective Intelligence System for Clinical Emergency Services (PISCES) identifies the eligible patients using real-time electronic surveillance rules against Kaiser’s Epic EHR of over 4 million members and 66,000 median annual ED census.
