As the First Vendor Validated by the CDC for AU, Asolva Showcases Medici at Antimicrobial Stewardship Symposium
In January 2020, Asolva representatives headed to Nashville to support the 4th Annual Middle Tennessee Antimicrobial Stewardship Symposium at Belmont University. In 2014, a Journal of the American Medical Association study found that Tennessee had the highest hospital antibiotic prescribing rates. Now, the state will become the first in the nation to mandate antibiotic use and resistance (AUR) reporting to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). An important public health initiative, AUR empowers facilities and agencies to benchmark and analyze antibiotic use and resistance towards the greater goals of reducing antimicrobial resistant infections and inappropriate prescribing. While AUR reporting is currently voluntary for acute care hospitals enrolled in NHSN, Tennessee will require facilities to begin reporting AUR, depending on their size, between Jan. 2021 and Jan. 2023.
At the recent Middle Tennessee Antimicrobial Stewardship Symposium, Asolva supported antimicrobial stewardship and education while showcasing Medici AU; a turnkey software product that can get nearly any hospital up and running with AUR reporting in a single day. With Medici, Asolva is the first vendor validated by the CDC for AU. Unlike traditional IT vendor products that are wrapped around costly customization services, Medici AU comes with pre-made data interfaces for electronic health records. While many facility leaders may fear that preparing for mandatory AUR reporting will be a lengthy and costly process, Asolva attends events like the recent Tennessee symposium to share just how easy and affordable reporting to NHSN using the standard Days Of Therapy (DOT) metric can be.
Working with public health entities, healthcare facilities and providers to minimize unnecessary exposure to antibiotics and related development of multi-drug-resistant organisms is part of Asolva’s ongoing mission.
